Fearless v Linklaters at Griffin Park

close up

On May 20th 2014, global law firm Linklaters and The Fearless Foundation took to the Griffin Park turf to play in memory of Danny Fullbrook and in aid of his charity the Fearless Foundation.

Brentford FC’s ground Griffin Park has seen plenty of quality football this season with the Bees winning promotion to the Championship. However, the standard was almost as high (almost!) as a number of celebrities and former footballers represented Team Fearless.

The match was one of the auction prizes generously donated by Brentford Football Club at the 2013 Fearless Foundation ball. Linklaters kindly put in the highest bid to win the use of Griffin Park for the evening, and host of the ball DJ Spoony stepped up by providing a celebrity team for the match.

Fearless celebrities included presenters Ben Shephard, Jeff Brazier and DJ Spoony himself, alongside former Fulham footballer Barry Hayles, Leeds legend Michael Duberry, Charlton hero Jonathan Fortune and Brentford’s very own Jamie Lawrence. There were even a couple of Fearless employees in the mix along with Chief Executive of Brentford FC Community Sports Trust Lee Doyle.

Team Fearless lined up in a Fulham strip – the team which Danny supported – and his family were there to cheer on the side from the touchline.

Unfortunately for Linklaters they were on the receiving end of a 6-1 drubbing on the night. The mighty Fearless Team played calm, consistent football to dominate their young rivals, with Duberry managing affairs at the back, Shephard storming through the middle and Brazier lively on the wing.

However, any rivalry was left on the pitch with both teams enjoying a curry and a couple of beers in the Hive afterwards.

Fearless would like to thank Linklaters for their generous donation to the Fearless Foundation, DJ Spoony for organising the celebrity team, Brentford FC for providing the pitch and to everyone who took part.

Also a special thanks to referee Kevin Foster and linesmen Elliot Foster and Aadam Mirza who kindly donated their time to officiate the affair, which was played in a friendly and fun nature throughout.
